Help & support

Installing

  1. Download HideMyShare-Setup.exe and run it.
  2. Choose the install folder and finish the wizard. HideMyShare starts automatically.
  3. Click a preset (e.g. WeChat) or any window in the list — it's now hidden from screen shares. Test it: start a meeting, share your screen, and look at the viewer preview.

The first launch after installation can take a few seconds on some PCs — your antivirus is deep-scanning a new program. Subsequent launches are fast.

"Windows protected your PC" (SmartScreen)

This blue warning appears for every program from an independent developer that Windows doesn't know yet — it is not a virus detection. To run the installer:

  1. In the SmartScreen dialog, click More info.
  2. Click Run anyway.
HideMyShare's installer and app are distributed directly from this site. We sign every release the same way — if the file you downloaded doesn't come from hidemyshare.site, don't run it.

Antivirus flags HideMyShare

HideMyShare marks other apps' windows as "do not capture". Windows only allows an app to mark its own windows — so HideMyShare injects a tiny helper (4 KB, published as readable C source) into the target app to set that flag. Injection is a legitimate technique here, but it's also used by malware, so some antivirus tools apply extra scrutiny.

We submit each release to Microsoft and major antivirus vendors. If your antivirus still warns:

  • Microsoft Defender: Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history → find the blocked item → Actions → Allow. Or add an exclusion for the install folder: Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Manage settings → Exclusions → Add folder.
  • 360 / Huorong / Tencent PC Manager: open the quarantine or interception log, choose Trust / Restore / Allow for HideMyShare, and add the install folder to the trust list.
  • After whitelisting, restart HideMyShare from the Start menu.

Troubleshooting

A window is still visible in the share

  • Make sure the row's switch is green (protected) before you start sharing. You can toggle it during a share too — the change applies immediately.
  • Chat pop-ups of a preset app are covered automatically. For other apps, protect the main window once — the rule follows the whole application, including windows opened later.
  • On Windows 10 older than version 2004, protected windows show as black rectangles to viewers instead of disappearing (Windows limitation).

"Run as administrator" toast appears

The target app is running with admin rights; Windows blocks HideMyShare from touching it. Right-click HideMyShare → Run as administrator, then toggle the app again.

Protection engine keeps failing

Your antivirus may be blocking the engine component. Whitelist the install folder (see above), then use the tray icon → Restart protection engine. If it still fails, email us — the app's About dialog shows the version to include.

License & activation

  • Invalid key — copy-paste the key exactly from your order email (no extra spaces).
  • Seats full — one license covers computer. On an old computer open HideMyShare → license box → Unbind, then activate the new one.
  • Clock changed, license locked — connect to the internet once; the app re-validates with the server and unlocks automatically within a minute.
  • Refunded key — refunds disable the key immediately; the app stops protecting after the trial-like grace window and shows the purchase banner.
